Trevor Anderson, a Boston based volcanologist discovers a book containing his brother’s exploration when his nephew Sean comes to stay with him. His brother had gone missing. Together with his nephew, Trevor travels to Iceland. He sees a mountain and decides to explore it along with their mountain guide. There is a storm. They are trapped. They see an opening and rush towards it. The ground underneath their feet breaks down. They fall down the hole. This hole ultimately leads them to an exciting journey where they discover creatures, long ago extinct on earth.
Though they find the center, they are not able to escape. The temperature of the earth begins to rise. Whether they are able to break free from the clutches of the most primitive core of the earth is what the story deals with. The film has been produced jointly by new Line Cinema and Walden Media.
