This sentimental drama centers on Sabrina 'Bree' Osbourne (Felicity Huffman), an overeducated, conservative transsexual woman from Los Angeles who awaits her final sexual reassignment surgery. Her life, however, takes an unexpected turn when she gets a phone call from Toby Wilkins (Kevin Zegers), a 17-year-old boy claiming to be his son from a long-ago liaison. He is a small-time drug user and street hustler (servicing both male and female clients) who is now in jail in New York. Toby's mother committed suicide, after which he was raised by his abusive stepfather, whom he does not get along with. So he wants to meet his biological father.
